Srinagar, Sep 30 (KNO): The proposed Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) at Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri has entered the final stages of a fresh tendering process, while a proposal for an MRI facility remains pending approval from the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the Government has informed the Assembly.
In reply to a question by Rajouri MLA Iftkar Ahmed, the Health and Medical Education Department, according to the news agency--Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said Rs 625 lakh was released on June 18, 2025, followed by Rs 312.50 lakh on October 3, 2025, for procurement of the Cath Lab. However, the funds could not be utilised as the selected bidder was unable to supply the equipment as per the prescribed specifications and agreed rate contract.
A fresh tender was subsequently floated and is now nearing completion, the government said.
It also informed the House that Rs 625 lakh was allocated to the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL) on June 23, 2026, for the 2026-27 financial year to facilitate the project.
The Cath Lab is expected to provide specialised cardiac intervention services to patients in Rajouri and adjoining areas once procurement and installation are completed.
On the proposed MRI facility, the government said the project was submitted under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) through the Social Welfare Department to the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
The proposal was returned by the Centre seeking certain clarifications. The department has since furnished the required details and resubmitted the proposal through the Social Welfare Department.
The government said work on the MRI facility will be taken up once the proposal receives approval and the required funds are released by the ministry—(KNO)
